The holiday season is upon us, and one of the most beloved traditions in the Town of Lexington is the annual Christmas Parade. Chief Terrence Green has announced that there will be road closures and detours during the afternoon of Sunday, December 4th to accommodate this festive event.
Starting at 1:00 p.m., West Butler Street will be closed from Columbia Avenue to North Church Street. In addition, Haygood Avenue and part of Meetze Street will also be closed to allow parade participants to stage and prepare their floats. The Lexington County Extension Office parking lot will be closed all day for float setup and staging.
The parade route will take participants from Haygood Avenue to West Main Street/US-1, and then onto North Lake Drive/SC-6. The best viewing spots for the parade will be along West Main Street from Haygood Avenue to the intersection of Main Street at Lake Drive.
To ensure the safety of both parade participants and spectators, several road closures and detours will be in effect. Starting at 2:45 p.m., West Main Street from Columbia Avenue to North Lake Drive, East Main Street at Harmon Street, North Lake Drive at Dreher Street, and South Lake Drive at Fort Street will be closed. Traffic will be detoured around the parade route until the event concludes.
The main roadway detours are expected to reopen around 4:30 p.m. However, West Butler Street, from Columbia Avenue to South Church Street, will remain closed until all parade floats and participants have cleared the area. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot and parking space. It is recommended to park in public parking lots near the event to avoid the risk of being towed from private business parking lots.
